Style guide rules require one option

Style guide rules allow me to mark text as optional; however they don't have a way to say "it must be at least one of these options". You use the @ sign for options in output (eg to list alternatives), could you use @ sign to mark optional text where something should be present?
This might require that you include punctuation in strings, eg @ n't @ not
